Life

Andersen was born in Inglewood, California, to Frank Glas and Teresa Andersen. She had a sister named Angelica, who also became an actress, and two brothers, Dean and Mark. Andersen was a distant relative of the Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen . She grew up in Malibu , California. Her extraordinary intelligence was already evident as a toddler, so she could read at the age of two and a half. In the same year, she is said to have reportedly expressed a desire to become an actress. Initially, she was used as a photo model and in the advertising industry.

The then seven-year-old made her film debut in 1982 in Peter Levin's drama Washington Mistress . Soon after, she had her biggest role in And Savannah Smiles (OT: Savannah Smiles ). In the family drama, Andersen played the six-year-old daughter of a politician who ran away and got into the hands of kidnappers. The kidnappers can, however, give her the time and attention she does not get from her own parents. Andersen's portrayal of seven-year-old Mae West in a TV film of the same name about the actress from the same year was also praised . From 1983 to 1986 Andersen was nominated four times for the Young Artist Award .

Then Andersen was seen in numerous roles, often she had guest appearances in well-known series such as Golden Girls , Remington Steele or Plenty of Family . Her career seemed to have stalled as early as 1987, when she was able to book her last film role in the comedy Robot with a Heart . She remained a child star and had problems with drugs as a teenager.

In 1997, she died of a heroin and alcohol overdose just two months before her 22nd birthday . She was in a coma in the Queen of Angels Hospital in Los Angeles for a few days before she was taken from the life-support machines as brain-dead .

Shortly before her death, she had received another film role. The film project, Locker 28 , was never completed.

Andersen's body was cremated and her ashes scattered on Zuma Beach in Malibu.
