John Shanks

John Shanks is an American music producer , songwriter and guitarist. Since 2016 he has been a rhythm guitarist in Bon Jovi's live band .

Life

He began his career in the late 1980s as a guitarist in the touring band of Melissa Etheridge . Between 1990 and 1995 he wrote a few songs for mostly unknown rock bands and worked as a studio musician . In 1995 he wrote some songs with Melissa Etheridge for her album Your little secret . In 1999 he produced her album Breakdown , which was nominated for three Grammys, including Best Rock Album.

In 2001, Shanks co-wrote four songs for Michelle Branch's debut album The Spirit Room , including her first hit single Everywhere . He produced the majority of Michelle Branch's first two albums himself. In 2001, together with Sheryl Crow, wrote their song Steve McQueen .

In 2004 he produced the album So Called Chaos by singer Alanis Morissette and thus finally rose to become an internationally renowned producer. In the same year he wrote several songs for the Australian country rock singer Keith Urban .

Shanks produced the albums Autobiography and I Am Me for Ashlee Simpson .

In 2005 he won a Grammy Award for Producer of the Year and produced Bon Jovis Have a Nice Day .

In the meantime he has worked for artists and bands such as Take That , Backstreet Boys , Santana & Steven Tyler , Hilary Duff , Anastacia , Jewel , SHeDAISY and Unwritten Law as a producer or songwriter.

He also works regularly with Melissa Etheridge, for whom he produced the LP Lucky in 2004 .

John Shanks worked on six Bon Jovi albums and has been a member of the live band since October 2016, in which he takes on the role of Bobby Bandiera as rhythm guitarist.

Current work (Miley Cyrus and Van Halen)

In 2009 he wrote and produced almost the entire EP The Time Of Our Lives by Miley Cyrus on Hollywood Records . He wrote and produced 5 of the total of 8 tracks: Kicking and Screaming , When I Look at You (including the soundtrack of Cyrus' film The Last Song ) and Talk Is Cheap , he wrote and produced the two other songs Obsessed and he only produced The Climb . Miley Cyrus achieved the greatest success of this EP with the hit When I Look at You , which was almost entirely and single- handedly written and produced by John Shanks .

Shanks was the producer of the album A Different Kind of Truth by US rocker Van Halen . On January 20, 2011 it was announced that the band was in the studio with John Shanks. Shanks spread the word through his Twitter account. Shanks also produced the album What About Now by Bon Jovi , which was released in March, 2013. In collaboration with Jon Bon Jovi he wrote the title track of the upcoming Bon Jovi album " This House Is Not For Sale ", which will be released on October 21, 2016. The title track of the album mentioned in the last sentence was released on August 12, 2016.
