The Nové Mesto nad Váhom – Veselí nad Moravou railway is a regional railway connection in the Czech Republic and Slovakia . It runs from Nové Mesto nad Váhom via Vrbovce to Veselí nad Moravou .

history

Prehistory and construction

After the establishment of Czechoslovakia , one of the most important tasks of the young state was to adapt the traffic routes, which were oriented towards the old capitals of Vienna and Budapest , to the new traffic requirements. The main problem was the poor condition of the railway lines over the old border between Austria and Hungary . To remedy this, a whole series of new railway lines - such as the Nové Mesto nad Váhom – Veselí nad Moravou connection - were planned.

The stretch between Veselí nad Moravou and Myjava was opened in 1927, the remainder to Nové Mesto nad Váhom in 1929.

business

After the division of Czechoslovakia into the Czech Republic and Slovakia in 1993, passenger traffic was broken at the new state border. The Vrbovce station was designated as the border station . A border-technical curiosity arose from the fact that the eponymous place was in Slovakia, but the train station was on the cadastre of Kuželov in the Czech Republic. It was renamed Javorník nad Veličkou. In 1997 the station was handed over to the Slovak Railways as part of an area exchange between the Czech Republic and Slovakia and was given its old name back.

Due to the division of the federation, the route has lost its importance. In 2018, regional trains run about every two hours on the Slovak section to Myjava and sometimes further to Vrbovce or Velká nad Veličkou.

In the 2018 timetable, the Czech section is served every two hours, sometimes every hour on weekdays, by passenger trains to Velká nad Veličkou. Some of these continue to Javorník nad Veličkou zastávka or Vrbovce.
