Čachtice (German Schächtitz , Hungarian Csejte ) is a municipality in western Slovakia .
geography
Čachtice is located at the transition from the Little Carpathians to the Danube lowlands, about 7 km south of Neustadt an der Waag at an altitude of 203 m.
history
The place was mentioned for the first time in 1263, in the 17th century Habans settled here . He is best known for the castle , the main residence of Elisabeth Báthory , around which many legends as the "blood countess" entwine.
