Očkov (Hungarian Ocskó ) is a municipality in the west of Slovakia with 478 inhabitants (December 31, 2019), which for Nové Mesto nad Váhom District of, part kraj Trenčiansky heard.
geography
The municipality is located in the north of the Trnavská pahorkatina hills at the foot of the Little Carpathians, not far from the Dudváh river ( called Horný Dudváh here ). The center of the village is at an altitude of 169 m nm and is 13 kilometers from Piešťany and 14 kilometers from Nové Mesto nad Váhom .
Neighboring communities are Podolie in the north, Pobedim in the east, Ostrov in the south and Šípkové in the west.
history
In today's municipality there was a settlement of the Aunjetitz culture in the older Bronze Age. A prince's grave from the Young Bronze Age and a barbaric grave next door on the way to Podolie are important. The direct predecessor of today's place was a Slavic settlement in the 10th and 11th centuries.
Očkov itself was first mentioned in writing as Wchkou and was owned by the Ocskay family , which bears the name of the place. In 1709 the village was destroyed by an imperial army, in 1715 it had vineyards and 14 households. In the 18th century, part of Očkov belonged to the Čachtice estate . In 1828 there were 54 houses and 372 inhabitants, whose main sources of income were agriculture and viticulture.
Until 1918, the place in Neutra County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Očkov had 463 inhabitants, of whom 437 were Slovaks , 2 Magyars and 1 Pole . 1 resident indicated another ethnic group and 22 residents gave no information about the ethnic group .
416 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, 10 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, 2 residents to the Greek Catholic Church and 1 resident to the Mormons; 1 resident indicated another denomination. 9 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 24 residents was not determined.
