Potvorice (until 1927 Slovak and "Patvarovce"; Hungarian Patvaróc ) is a municipality in the west of Slovakia with 680 inhabitants (December 31, 2019), which for Nové Mesto nad Váhom District of, part kraj Trenčiansky heard.
geography
The municipality is located in the northern part of the Danube hill country on the right bank of the Waag and its canal called Biskupický derivačný kanál . The center of the village is at an altitude of 177 m nm and is eight and a half kilometers from Nové Mesto nad Váhom .
Neighboring municipalities are Považany in the north, Hrádok in the east, Brunovce in the south and Čachtice in the west.
history
In today's municipal area there was a burial place of the urn field culture with ceramics of the Prague type.
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1263 as Potworich and was then part of the royal estate. Later landlords came from the families Ruttkay , Bársony , Csáky , Jesenský and others. In 1715 the village had two mills and 36 households, in 1828 there were 47 houses and 369 inhabitants, whose main source of income was agriculture.
Until 1918, the place in Neutra County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, 580 inhabitants lived in Potvorice, of which 571 were Slovaks , 4 Czechs , 2 Moravians and 1 German . 1 resident stated another ethnic group and 1 resident gave no information about the ethnic group .
456 residents professed to the Roman Catholic Church, 24 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, 2 residents each to the Evangelical Methodist Church and 2 residents to the Greek Catholic Church and 1 resident to the Old Catholic Church; 1 resident indicated another denomination. 82 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 12 residents was not determined.
