Považany is a municipality in western Slovakia . It is located in the Waag Valley on the bank of the Waag, 7 km from Nové Mesto nad Váhom .
The present municipality was formed in 1960 through the merger of three places: Mošovce (incorporated as Mošovce nad Váhom , first mentioned in 1263), Kríž nad Váhom (incorporated as Svätý Kríž nad Váhom ; German Heiligenkreuz , first mentioned in 1297) and Vieska (first mentioned in 1368) and Vieska (first mentioned in 1368) first Nové Mošovce before it was given its current name in 1961. The name means something like "lying on the scales".
The Slovak cardinal Alexander Rudnay was born in 1760 in today's district of Kríž nad Váhom.
