history

The place was first mentioned in writing in 1380 as Bosach . According to tradition, the name is derived from a former wooden monastery, which was inhabited by hermits who only walked barefoot (Slovak bosý ). For a long time Bošáca belonged to the estate of the nearby Beckov Castle . In contrast to the neighboring communities Zemianske Podhradie and Trenčianske Stankvoce , Bošáca was entirely a farming community. The place was known in the 18th and 19th centuries for its fruit growing: this is where the still existing slivovitz distillery comes from . Originally only the part in the Waagtal was inhabited, after the settlement of the part in the White Carpathians in the 18th century, the population grew steadily (1784: 2146 inh., 1900: 3488 in., 1940: 4409 inh.) Until it was separated the municipality of Nová Bošáca in 1950 and emigration to the nearby cities, which reversed this trend, so that today the population is now almost 1,400.
