Horka nad Vahom (until 1948 Slovak "Horka", Hungarian Vághorka - until 1907 Huorka ) is a municipality in the west of Slovakia with 766 inhabitants (December 31, 2019), which for Nové Mesto nad Váhom District of, part kraj Trenčiansky , heard.
geography
The municipality is located in the northern foothills of the Trnavská pahorkatina hills and thus also the Slovak Danube lowlands , at the western foot of the Považský Inovec Mountains . The place stands at the beginning of the valley Hôrčanská dolina and is traversed by the Hôrčanský creek, which flows into the Waag on the other side of the highway . The center of the village is at an altitude of 193 m nm and is ten kilometers from Nové Mesto nad Váhom .
Neighboring municipalities are Nová Ves nad Váhom in the north, Kálnica in the northeast, Zlatníky and Podhradie in the east, Hrádok in the south and Považany in the west.
history
Hôrka nad Váhom was first mentioned in writing in 1246 as Hurka and was part of the dominion of the Tematín Castle . In 1453 the village had a total of nine portals . In 1715 there were vineyards in the village, in 1828 there were 66 houses and 461 inhabitants, whose main source of income was agriculture.
Until 1918, the place in Neutra County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Hôrka nad Váhom had 701 inhabitants, 659 of whom were Slovaks and 4 Czechs . 38 residents gave no information on ethnicity .
549 residents professed to the Roman Catholic Church, 23 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, 4 residents to the Evangelical Methodist Church and 1 resident to the Orthodox Church. 56 inhabitants had no denomination and the denomination of 68 inhabitants was not determined
