The Tiemen Guan or Tiemen Pass ( Chinese 鐵門關 / 铁门关 , Pinyin Tiě Mén Guān , English Iron Gate Pass , German: Eisentorpass ) leads from the Chinese city of Korla ( Chinese 庫爾勒 / 库尔勒 , Pinyin Kù'ěrlè ) of Uighur autonomous region Xinjiang after Karashahr (now autonomous district Yanqi the Hui ).
It is located about 7 km north of the main town, the large community of Yanqi. Because it was easy to defend, it played an important role in protecting the ancient Silk Road from the predatory nomads advancing from the north.
