history

Lipov was probably founded between the 10th and 12th centuries. 1348 drew a Chotieborz de Tylea ( Chotěbor z Lípy ) as a witness in a deed of the owner of the Velká estate, Ulman de Welka . Since the other witnesses also come from the area, it is assumed that Chotieborz had his seat in Lipov. A document from 1358 on the joint property of the brothers Pavel von Strání and Ctibor von Lipov, which included the villages of Korytná , Horní Němčí , Strání and Lipov, is a secured first mention . In the following year they sold the town of Strání, Korytná and a third of Horní Němčí and rights in Volenov to the brothers Franěk, Petr and Václav from Kunovice, with Pavel also acting on behalf of the orphans of Benesch and Milota von Gansberg . In 1366, Benesch Gans von Gansberg ( Beneš Hus z Kanšperka ) and his sons signed a contract with Ctibor von Lipov for the joint management of the Lipov, Korytná and Horní Němčí estates. Since then, Benesch and his sons Wernusch and Wilhelm have also used the Lipov label. In 1379 Ctibor von Lipov complained to the margrave about the over-indebtedness of the goods by Wernusch Gans von Gansberg and then sold his part of Lipov to the Olomouc Chamberlain Wenzel von Krawarn . In 1381 Wenzel also acquired the shares of Wernusch and Wilhelm Gans von Gansberg in Lipov, half of the village Horní Němčí and seven hubs from Korytná. In 1417 Peter von Krawarn pledged the town of Lipov to Liček von Újezd. He received the deposit back in 1420. Subsequently, the landlords changed frequently. At the beginning of the 16th century the area was devastated by the troops of the Hungarian general Filippo Scolari, known as Pipo Spanio, and then by Jan Hašek von Ostroh during the Hussite Wars . Subsequently, the market town belonging to the Strážnice domain was still ravaged by various troops. After Georg von Krawarn died in 1466, the inheritance fell to his daughter Elisabeth, who was married to Pertold von Leipa . Subsequently, there were frequent disputes with the brothers Mikuláš and Václav from Vojslavice over the management of the waters from Blatnice to the ponds near Veselí and Lipov. After her first husband died in 1482, Elisabeth married Peter IV von Rosenberg in 1483 . Three years later, Peter and Wok II of Rosenberg pledged the rule to Johann the Elder. Ä. of Zierotin . In the tax register from 1516 to 1519 there are 29 farms for Lipov.

The Lords of Zierotin promoted the settlement of Bohemian brothers in the 16th century. After the incursion of the Transylvanian rebels under Stephan Bocskai in 1605, 35 of the 68 farms in Lipov lay desolate. In 1617 the little town of Lipov consisted of 46 half-farms, 49 quarter-farmers and 38 cottagers . Lipov and Velká were performed in two parts along the Velička at that time. The town of Lipov was to the left of the river and opposite the settlement of Závodí. Both were laid out as street villages. In the castle law register, 74 properties are shown for the town and 68 for Závodí. In 1621 Lipov was devastated by Gábor Bethlen's troops . The goods of the Lords of Zierotin confiscated after the Battle of the White Mountain and the share of the freeman Jan Rejtejn von Varjelit were sold to Franz von Magnis in 1629 . When the Turks invaded the old church in 1663, it was badly damaged. In 1790 Lipov consisted of 153 houses and had 820 inhabitants. At that time there was also a Jewish community. The Catholic parish in Lipov was renewed in 1784. In 1794 the ruined church was restored and a tower was added. Despite sanitary security measures, the cholera epidemic that broke out in Lower Hungary in 1831 spread to Moravia. The cemetery was overburdened by the large number of deaths, so that a cholera cemetery had to be built on Kopánec Square. In 1838 Lipov consisted of 181 houses and had 1059 inhabitants. Until the middle of the 19th century, Lipov always remained submissive to Strážnice .

After the replacement of patrimonial Lipov / Lippau formed from 1850 a market town in the district administration of Göding and the judicial district of Strážnice . In 1870 there were 1242 people in Lipov's 223 houses. At the end of the 19th century the market was given the Czech name Lípov , which was changed back to Lipov in 1924 . In 1900 the population had grown to 1755. This subsequently fell sharply, and in 1910 there were only 1505 people in Lipov. In 1914 a community school was established and two years later the Lipov post office was established. In 1927 the Myjava – Veselí nad Moravou railway was inaugurated. The school was expanded in 1888 to include three-class classes. In 1922 a new school building was built. Between 1949 and 1960 the community belonged to the Okres Veselí nad Moravou and came back to the Okres Hodonín after its dissolution .

The cymbal orchestra Horňácká cimbálová muzika by Petr Galečka comes from Lipov .
