history

Kelčany was built in the 12th century below a fortress on the hill of Babylon. The first written mention took place in 1365, when the Kremsier chapter dean Johann von Boskowitz sold the fortress and the village Kelčany together with four fields in Stralek and half of Osvětimany to his brother Tas. In 1391 Tas von Boskowitz sold the fortress Kelčany with the villages Kelčany and Sobůlky to Friedrich von Crhov. Erhard von Kunstadt acquired the estate from his widow Katharina in 1398 . He was followed by Soběn from Cetechovice from 1407 and then Laček from Zborovice, who sold Kelčany in 1417 to Mikeš from Malotín. From this in 1418 Niklas von Lhota acquired the property. His heirs left Kelčany in 1447 to Ješek von Jikev. In 1503 Vlásek von Petropyna bought the estate from Václav von Jikev. In 1508 Václav von Doloplazy followed, then around 1525 his sons Bartoloměj and Jiří Stolbašský von Doloplazy. The latter sold Kelčany in 1557 to Zikmund von Zástřizl . The festivals and the courtyard were described as desolate in 1527. In 1607 Staré Kelčany consisted of seven estates. After the Battle of White Mountain , the property was confiscated in 1620 and sold to Prosper Paravicini. He sold Kelčany in 1635 for 3000 Rhenish guilders to Franz von Magnis on Strážnice . He was followed by Sigmund Görtz von Asten, after his death the estate was bought by Emperor Ferdinand III in 1650 . moved in because Görtzen's son and heir were not suitable for the possession of land-based goods according to the Renewed State Order . In 1664 Emperor Leopold I. Kelčany ceded to Elisabeth Juliana von Hillin against a claim by her deceased husband. Since she could not take over the property as a foreigner, the Moravian Chamber Procurator sold the desolate Kelčany farm with 123 hectares of land, the desolate village and the mill for 2,600 Rhenish guilders to the royal city of Gaya on January 18, 1666 . In 1670 the town had settlers from Vřesovice create the new village New Kelczan / Nové Kelčany 300 m southwest of the desert village Staré Kelčany . In 1793 there were 191 people in Kelčany. In 1834 the village consisted of 41 houses, the municipal Meierhof, a distillery and a mill and had 223 inhabitants. Until the middle of the 19th century, Kelčany always remained submissive to Gaya. The village was parish to Kostelec, the school location was Vlkoš.

After the abolition of patrimonial Kelčany / Keltschan formed from 1850 a community in the district administration Gaya. In 1859 the Svatá Barbora lignite mine was built between Kelčany and Žádovice and a glass factory next to it. Instead of the glass factory that burned down in 1861, Albert Edler von Klein had a large share sugar factory built with several ponds. In 1871, the share sugar factory leased the Kelčany, Kostelec, Milotice , Mistřín and Svatobořice farms . In 1881 the Keltschaner Zuckerfabrik AG leased all of the Bzenec , Buchlov and Koryčany farms . The Svatá Barbora mine also belonged to the Sugar Factory AG. The three-kilometer Vlkoš-Kelčany railway line was built between 1883 and 1884 as a connecting line for the sugar factory. A school was inaugurated in 1909. In 1910 the village had 455 inhabitants. In 1945 a second lignite mine was opened with the Prokop mine. After the Okres Kyjov was abolished, Kelčany was assigned to the Okres Hodonín in 1960. In 1967 the Kelčany sugar factory stopped production. Since the end of the lessons, the old school has served as the seat of the municipal administration and the municipal library. There are extensive vineyards in the vicinity of the village.
