Vracov (German Wratzow , older also Prazowe , Prazow ) is a city in the Czech Republic . It is located seven kilometers southeast of Kyjov and belongs to the Okres Hodonín .

geography

The South Moravian wine town is located in the headwaters of the Vracovkský potok and is surrounded by vineyards to the north and an extensive forest area to the south. The stream, through whose valley the railway runs, divides the city. To the north is the historical part and to the south the new settlement. Vracov is located on State Road 54 and the railway line between Kyjov and Veselí nad Moravou .

Neighboring towns are Žádovice and Žeravice in the north, Těmice in the northeast, Bzenec in the east, Vacenovice and Milotice in the southwest, Skoronice and Vlkoš in the west and Kelčany in the northwest.

history

Presumably the place mentioned for the first time in 1201 was created during the reign of the Moravian Přemyslids . The name Vracov is derived from Vrac, a dimutiv form of the name Vratislav . In 1231 Constanze of Hungary owned bases in both Hodonín and Bzenec , which were part of her dowry. The queen was also the founder of the town church of St. Laurentius. Her grandson Ottokar II. Přemysl incorporated Vracov into the Břeclav district. Together with the town and castle of Břeclav, Vracov was pledged to Wilhelm von Hustopeč in 1264, who expanded the place into an administrative center in south-east Moravia and divided his property into the Břeclav and Vracover districts. Vracov received thereby the status of a court seat. After the dissolution, Vracov became royal rule and was later assigned to the Moravian Chamber. Wenceslas II (Bohemia) moved the district seat to Bzenec, where he had a new Gothic castle built. After the Přemyslids died out, Vracov fell to John of Luxembourg .

At the beginning of the 14th century Johann raised Vracov to the market and left the right to carry the seal on which three towers are depicted. In the following time the vineyard was enlarged. Between 1427 and 1428 the Hussites under Andreas Prokop besieged the Bzenec castle and destroyed it. In 1517 Vracov was given the status of a market town and brewing rights. In 1568 the Silesian nobleman Kaspar Pruskowski von Proskau acquired the rule and settled German craftsmen to stimulate the economy.

In 1848 Wratzow became an independent market town after patrimonial was replaced. On January 1st, 1967 the town charter was granted.
