geography

Vlkoš is located on the left side of the Hruškovice river at the southern foot of the hilly Kyjovská pahorkatina in the Dolnomoravský úval ( southern March basin ). The Chrást and Kuče (278 m) rise to the north, the Liščí kopec (210 m) to the west and the U Svatého Rocha ( Rochusberg , 256 m) and the Baba to the north-west . The Kyjov - Veselí nad Moravou railway and the I / 54 state road from Kyjov to Vracov run through the village .

Neighboring towns are Kostelec and Kelčany in the north, Žádovice and Těmice in the northeast, Vracov in the southeast, Vacenovice and Milotice in the south, Skoronice and Svatobořice in the southwest and Kyjov and Nětčice in the northwest.

history

The first written mention of Vlkus took place on October 12, 1248 in a document drawn up in Čejkovice about the donation of four hubs of land in Rakvice to the Knights Templar in Šakvice , on which Martin von Vlkus drew as a witness. The seat of the Vladiken of Vlkus was the festival on the Baba. A portion of 300 hectares including a forecourt and the mill belonged, probably since the time of Queen Constance , to the rule of Bzenec - Vracov . There is evidence of a parish in Vlkus since 1349. At the end of the 14th century, Hynek von Ronow acquired the Vlkus and Milotice estates . After his death in 1406 Vlkus was attached to the Kostelec dominion . Part of the goods belonged to the brothers Zbynko († 1447) and Niklas / Mikuláš from Morawan on Milotice from 1421 and from 1433 Zbynko's sons Zbynko and Jan, who came from the Landstein family. In 1466 the Landsteiners acquired the entire Kostelec-Vlkoš rule. In 1503 the owner of the Kelčany and Žeravice estates , Václav Štolbašský, bought the estate. The next owner was Joachim Zoubek von Zdětín in 1569. The parish expired around 1630. On October 22nd, 1633 the Zoubek von Zdětín sold their rule Kostelec-Vlkoš to Jan Bohuš from Zástřizl on Svatobořice . In 1655 he also took over the Bisenz-Wratzower share as a pledge. After the end of the Thirty Years War, 20 of the 57 farms in Vlkoš were desolate. At that time the village had 164 inhabitants. In 1660 Jan Bohuš von Zástřizl sold Vlkoš to his land manager Karl Norbert Žďárský. 1702 that burned Kuruc down the village and the farm. From 1719 the manor belonged to Jan Kavánek. He was followed by Josef Herdiborský, who sold the Vlkoš estate including the licensing rights and the inn in 1750 for 10,000 guilders to the Milotice estate. In 1831 300 residents died of the breakdown. In 1834 the village consisted of 117 houses and had 625 inhabitants. Until the middle of the 19th century, Vlkoš always remained submissive to Milotice.

After the abolition of patrimonial Vlkoš / Wlkosch formed from 1850 a community in the district administration of Gaya . Between 1883 and 1884 the Vlkoš-Kelčany railway line was built as a connecting line for the local sugar factory. After the Okres Kyjov was abolished, Vlkoš was assigned to the Okres Hodonín in 1960. Between 1980 and 1990 Skoronice was incorporated. The municipality of Vlkoš has had a coat of arms and a banner since 1996. To the north of the village there are extensive vineyards that reach as far as Kyjov.
