The city is located at the southern foot of the Steinitzer Forest on the upper reaches of the Trkmanka. In the north rise the Radlovec (425 m), Prostřední vrch (416 m) and U Slepice (437 m). To the east are the remains of the Palánek castle and the 363 m high Stará hora, to the west of the Dubový vrch (357 m). State road 431 from Vyškov to Kyjov runs through Ždánice .
Neighboring towns are Lovčice in the east, Věteřov and Dražůvky in the south and Archlebov in the southwest.
history
The settlement arose below the Palánek Castle and had a parish church since 1286. In 1322 the noblemen Albert and Bohuš bought the castle from Johann von Luxemburg and adopted the name "von Zdanycz". In 1349 “Zdanycz cum castro” was called a market. At that time, the castle also included vineyards in addition to the estate and the market. After the castle had been abandoned since the end of the 15th century, Ulrich von Kaunitz , who had acquired the estate three years earlier, had a renaissance castle built in 1569.
The Lords of Kaunitz held Steinitz until the Thirty Years' War and were then expropriated for participating in the class uprising. The new owners were the Liechtensteiners , who owned the castle until 1945. In 1739 the castle was given a baroque portal during a renovation. In the 18th century Steinitz became famous for its ceramic goods. Otherwise, viticulture and agriculture were essential sources of income for the place.
After the replacement of patrimonial Steinitz became an independent market town in the district administration Gaya and the seat of a district court, which was housed in the castle from 1850. The Steinitz market had 1850 1952 inhabitants.
1906 began the construction of the 26 km long railway line Čejč – Ždánice , which opened in 1908.
After the expropriation of the Liechtensteiners, the castle served as a vocational school for the Ždánice screw factory after the Second World War. In 1950 the place had 2,248 residents. On November 24, 1990, Ždánice was elevated to town status and since 1996 has had a coat of arms.
