The Čejč – Ždánice railway is a regional railway connection in the Czech Republic , which was originally built and operated as part of the state-guaranteed Saitz – Czeicz – Göding local railway . It runs from Čejč to Ždánice ( Steinitz ) in South Moravia .

According to a decree of the Czech government, the line has been classified as a regional railway ("regionální dráha") since December 20, 1995.

history

On July 24, 1908, the local railway Saitz – Czeicz – Göding received the concession for the line to Ždánice. The line was opened on September 15, 1908 for freight traffic and on February 6, 1909 for travel. The operation was carried out by the kk priv. Kaiser Ferdinands-Nordbahn (KFNB) for the account of the local railway Saitz – Czeicz – Göding. After the nationalization of the KFNB on January 1, 1907, this task was transferred to the Northern Railway Directorate of the kk Staatsbahnen (kkStB).

After the First World War, management was transferred to the newly founded Czechoslovak State Railways ČSD. In 1930 the Saitz – Czeicz – Göding local railway was nationalized and the line was integrated into the ČSD network.

During the Second World War , the route lay entirely in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia . The operators were now the Protectorate Railways Bohemia and Moravia (ČMD-BMB). On May 9, 1945, the entire line came back to the ČSD.

On January 1, 1993, the line was transferred to the newly founded České dráhy (ČD) in the course of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia . Since 2003 it has been part of the network of the state infrastructure operator Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC).

On May 23, 1998 the tourist traffic was stopped. Freight traffic to Ždánice to serve the screw factory was maintained until 2003. On October 10, 2006, the Uhřice u Kyjova – Ždánice section was closed.

In October 2010 the Czech Ministry of Transport announced the intended total closure of the route in December 2010, which was ultimately not implemented. As of 2014, the route was initially advertised for 46 million crowns for sale to third parties. In March 2019, SŽDC announced the sale of the Čejč – Uhřice u Kyjova line to TMŽ for 2.8 million crowns.

At the request of the commissioned infrastructure operator Railway Capital , the route from Čejč to Uhřice u Kyjova was downgraded to the local railway ( Místní dráha ) in April 2020 . This makes it the first railway line in the Czech Republic to use this line classification introduced by law in 2017.
