The Zaječí – Hodonín railway is a railway connection in the Czech Republic that was originally built and operated as part of the Saitz – Czeicz – Göding local railway (Místní dráha Zaječí – Čejč – Hodonín). It runs from Zaječí ( Saitz ) via Čejč ( Czeitsch ) to Hodonín ( Göding ).

According to a decree of the Czech government, the line has been classified as a regional railway ("regionální dráha") since December 20, 1995.

history

The concession for the Saitz – Czeicz – Göding local railway was granted on August 21, 1896. The line was opened on May 16, 1897. The operation was carried out by the kk priv. Kaiser Ferdinands-Nordbahn (KFNB) for the account of the local railway Saitz – Czeicz – Göding. After the nationalization of the KFNB on January 1, 1907, this task was transferred to the Northern Railway Directorate of the kk Staatsbahnen (kkStB).

In 1912, the local railway's timetable showed three mixed pairs of 2nd and 3rd class trains each day, none of which traveled the entire route. There were five pairs of trains between Mutenitz and Göding.

After the First World War, management was transferred to the newly founded Czechoslovak State Railways ČSD. In 1930 the Saitz – Czeicz – Göding local railway was nationalized and the line was integrated into the ČSD network.

After the Sudetenland was annexed to Germany in the autumn of 1938, a short section of the line with the connecting station Zaječí / Saitz was now on German territory. The operators were now the Protectorate Railways Bohemia and Moravia (ČMD-BMB). On May 9, 1945, the entire line came back to the ČSD.

On January 1, 1993, the line was transferred to the newly founded České dráhy (ČD) in the course of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia . Since 2003 it has been part of the network of the state infrastructure operator Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC).

In the 2019 timetable, the route is served by passenger trains every two hours. On weekdays, additional trains condense the offer, sometimes at hourly intervals. Some trains only use the Zaječí – Čejč section.

The Jihomoravský kraj as the authority responsible for local public transport intends to discontinue regular passenger transport between Čejč and Hodonín and to replace it with a bus line. Tourist traffic should only be maintained on the weekends. Currently, the trains only use 50 to 70 passengers a day in each direction. The affected communities protested against this, and residents signed a petition against the setting. The trains should now continue to operate in the 2020 timetable.
