history
Terezín is one of the youngest towns in the Hodonín district. The village was established in 1774 during the Teresian reforms and was in honor of Empress Maria Theresa as Theresienstadt village or Terezín named. The first settlers came from Hovorany or were immigrants from Croatia , including some French .
The original village was laid out about 400 m north of the present one. Terezín was relocated in 1796 because the previous location on what was then Lake Kobyler had proven unsuitable due to flooding and poor water. The first school was built in 1824, it was actually a Kaluppe and was relocated to a new single-class village school building in 1871. The lake was drained from 1835. In 1889 the Czech name was changed to Terezov , which was reversed in 1911.
In 1893 the derelict wooden windmill east of the village was demolished. In 1900 a poor fund was founded in the village. In 1906 construction began on the 26 km long local railway line Čejč - Ždánice , which opened in 1908. In 1922 the Trkmanka was regulated. Construction of the church began in 1930. The inhabitants of Terezín make their living from viticulture and agriculture.
Terezín belongs to the Hovoransko microregion and there is a stud farm in the village. Every year in Terezín there is an open cellar day, which is culturally framed with cymbal music. The residents maintain the old customs, especially the Moravian folk costumes.
