history

The first written mention of the village took place in 1406. At the beginning of the 16th century Jan von Kunovice acquired the village and proposed it to his new rule Ostroh . In the vicinity of Kuželov there were also vineyards until the 17th century. Until the middle of the 19th century, the village always remained subservient to Ostroh.

After the replacement of patrimonial Kůželová / Kuzelau formed from 1850 a community in the district administration Göding and the judicial district Strážnice . At the end of the 19th century the village was called Kůželov and Kůželové , and the current place name has been used since the beginning of the 20th century. Between 1949 and 1960 the community belonged to the Okres Veselí nad Moravou and came back to the Okres Hodonín after its dissolution . A wind turbine was built on Bojiště in 1990. After the division of Czechoslovakia , Kuželov became a border town with Slovakia in 1993. The Vrbovce station on the south-eastern cadastre of Kuželov on the Nové Mesto nad Váhom – Veselí nad Moravou railway line became a border station. In 1997, as part of a border adjustment, the train station and the surrounding parcels were ceded to Slovakia and assigned to the Vrbovce cadastre.

The Horňácko Region's annual Folklore Festival takes place in July.

Windmill in Kuželov

  • The most important, widely visible architectural monument is the Old Mill ( Starý Mlýn ) or windmill in Kuželov ( Větrný mlýn v Kuželově ) on a hill southeast of the entrance to the village. The Dutch windmill , built in 1842, has a conical, approximately seven-meter-high mill tower made of field stone, three floors and a rotating wooden shingle roof. In 1904 Johann (Jan) Kašík bought the mill. In 1906 the residential building was built next to the mill, later the barn and stables. It ground grain until 1918, at last it was only ground. After a renewed commitment by Johann Kašík's son Friedrich (Bedřich Kašík) it was completely closed in 1946. Since then the mill began to decline. The last miller died in 1971. In 1963 the mill was listed, in 1964 the wing cross was repaired. 1973-77 was carried out by the Technical Museum in Brno ( Technické muzeum v Brně ) a total restoration with an intact grinder, the mill was opened to the public. In 2001 the old windmill appeared on a Czech postage stamp. An open-air museum ( Skanzem u větrného mlýnu v Kuželově ) has been located in the old farm buildings from 1906 in the immediate vicinity of the mill since 1977 .
