Bučovice (German Butschowitz ) is a city with 6496 inhabitants (January 1, 2019) in the Czech Republic . It is located 230 m above sea level. 40 km east of Brno on the Litava and belongs to the Okres Vyškov .

history

The first written mention of it comes from the year 1322. In the second half of the 16th century the then sovereign Johann Schembera von Boskovic had a renaissance castle built , which is one of the most valuable buildings in the region. The builder was the imperial architect Jacopo Strada . Famous artists such as Hans Mont were involved in the design . From 1597 to 1945 the castle belonged to the Princes of Liechtenstein .

The town was badly marked by the Thirty Years War . There was a renewed boom in the 18th century when the textile industry was settled. After the decline in the textile industry, the furniture industry settled down.

Personalities

  • Bohuslav Sobotka (* 1971), politician, head of government and finance minister in the Czech Republic, attended the local grammar school.
