history
The first written mention of Herspicz took place in 1237, when King Wenzel I confirmed the possession of the rule Neusedlitz to the Teutonic Knight Order . The place name is probably derived from the personal name Hereš . After lengthy disputes with the Bohemian Crown, Wenceslaus IV took advantage of the weakness of the order after the Battle of Tannenberg , confiscated its property and expelled the order from the country in 1411. In 1422 the rule of Austerlitz was assigned to King Sigismund in the country table . In 1507 the Counts Kaunitz bought the goods. The most important owners were the Austrian house, court and state chancellor Wenzel Anton Kaunitz from 1746 to 1794 and the founder of the Brno Kaunitz college, Wenzel Robert von Kaunitz, from 1897 to 1913 . Since the Josephine patent of tolerance there was a Catholic and Protestant community in Herspitz. At the end of 1805 the French quartered themselves before the Battle of Austerlitz and plundered the village. In 1818 school lessons began in the Herspitz chapel, before the children were taught in Nížkovice. In 1825 a wooden school house was built. In 1841 a new single-storey school building with an apartment for the teacher was built. Until the middle of the 19th century, Herspitz always remained submissive to Austerlitz.
After the abolition of patrimonial formed Heršpice / Herspitz 1850 a municipality in the district administration Wischau . In 1856 the evangelical community built its own cemetery. From then on, only the Catholics used the old cemetery. In 1869 the Evangelical Church was consecrated. In 1876 the school moved into a new building in which three classes could be taught. On August 31, 1880 Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk in Heršpice was accepted into the Evangelical Church. In 1913, after the death of Wenzel Robert von Kaunitz, his brother Eugen inherited the property. He died in 1919 and after more than 400 years of ownership by the Kaunitzer family, they passed to the Slovak family Pálffy . In 1948 the Pálffy family was expropriated and their property was nationalized. Between 1949 and 1960 the community belonged to the Okres Slavkov and after its abolition came back to the Okres Vyškov . In 1964 Heršpice was merged with Nížkovice to form the municipality of Nížkovice-Heršpice . This dissolved again in 1990. Heršpice municipality has had a coat of arms and a banner since 1996. Heršpice today consists of 206 houses. The Catholic parish is Slavkov u Brna.
