Koryčany (German Koritschan , older also Kordschan ) is a town in the Zlínský kraj region in the Czech Republic . It is located ten kilometers north of Gaya and 25 kilometers west of Hungarian Hradisch on the north-western slopes of the Mars Mountains .
history
In the city area, isolated finds from the Stone Age and a Celtic settlement were found .
Koryčany was first mentioned in 1321, but documentary reports about the nearby castle date back to 1131, so it can be assumed that there was already a small settlement on the spot at that time. In 1349 it was appointed town and a year later the parish. From 1358 to 1611 the city belonged to the catchment area of the Lords of Cimburg . Even before the battle of the White Mountain there was a strong Jewish community in the area.
In the 14th century, the Lords of Cimburg shaped the development of the city. Bernhard von Cimburg, who was married to Sabine von Koritschan, built a new castle in the Martian Mountains in 1320 , the Cimburk Castle . He was succeeded by Čeněk von Drahotuš , who had the castle renovated. In the Hussite Wars , Wok / Vok V. von Holstein and the robber baron Jaroslav von Lomnitz took turns .
After frequently changing owners, Koryčany came to Wilhelm / Vilém von Víckov during the reign of King Ladislaus Postumus , who rebuilt the castle again and gave the place a seal.
After that, the following owners are known: Franz Gabriel Horecký von Horka had today's baroque castle built in place of the fortress in 1677. After him, Marie Regina Bertoletti von Bartenfeld owned the rule, after her Anton Emmerich Horecký von Horka. His widow sold the reign in 1742 to the Imperial Councilor Baron Karl Joseph von Gillern . In 1763, Baron Christian von Gillern inherited the rule, whose descendants they sold to Salomon Mayer Rothschild in 1846 . Shortly afterwards it went to the merchant Wilhelm Figdor and from there to his son-in-law Hermann Christian Wittgenstein , who sold it to Count Joseph von Trauttmansdorff-Weinsberg in 1863 . Hermann Wittgenstein's son Karl Wittgenstein (the father of the philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein ) bought the manor back and in 1899 it was taken over by his brother Ludwig "Louis" Wittgenstein.
In the area there was a glassworks in 1780, in which cut glass as well as glass for use were made in the 19th century. The factory was relocated to Gaya in 1907 . In 1856, the furniture manufacturer Michael Thonet opened a furniture factory.
