history

The upper Rusava valley in the Hostein Mountains, which belongs to the district of the Slavic fortress of Hostýn , was already settled during the early Middle Ages. However, the settlements became extinct again. The first written mention of the desolate villages of Gencze (Jenče), Gestrzebie (Jestřebí), Antiqualhota (Stará Lhota) and Wysokalhota (Vysoká Lhota) was made in 1372 in a determination of Margrave Johann Heinrich over the property of Obřany Castle . With the exception of the Jenče or Janče desert, which is now part of Chvalčov , these were in the corridors of today's Rusava municipality. The desolations Lhota Wysoka and Lhota Stara were mentioned again in 1466 in connection with the desolate Křídlo Castle.

At the beginning of the 16th century, Wallachian shepherds laid out individual salashes in the valley that had long been recaptured by the forest. During the Thirty Years War, the valley served as a refuge for Wallachian Protestants from the imperial troops.

The foundation of today's place took place in a document issued on April 23, 1657 at Holešov Castle by the Moravian governor Johann Anton von Rottal . The first residents of the settlement called Rottalowice were exempted from all compulsory payments and taxes for six years. After this period had expired, an annual contribution of four guilders and 30 kreuzers to the Bystřice pod Hostýnem manor and a three-day robot at the Holešov farm were due from each estate . Later, the rulers withdrew the charter and tried in vain to increase the taxes and rather low labor. Based on the names of the settlers, however, it can be concluded that most of them did not come to Rottalowice voluntarily , but were formerly rebellious Wallachians from Rottal's dominions Vsetín , Vizovice and Lukov who were forcibly resettled. In 1667, ten of the 29 properties in Rottalowice were again desolate. In 1672 the place was called Rothalowicze . Ultimately, the colonization was successful, in particular the favorable location in the difficult-to-access valley meant that during the incursions from Hungary, numerous residents from the Hanna sought refuge here and stayed. In 1778 about 800 people lived in the village; 125 Chalupners owned meadows, pastures or forests. Until the middle of the 19th century, the village was always subject to Bystřice.

After the abolition of patrimonial Rotalovice / Rottalowitz formed from 1850 a municipality in the district authority Holešov. In 1855 the place name Rusala , named after the brook, was used for the first time . During this time the road from Brusné to Ráztoka was built. The current place name Rusava can be traced for the first time in 1872 and was then used in parallel with the name Rotálovice . In 1875 a steam mill started operating in Ráztoka and burned down in 1884. In 1885, another fire also destroyed the Češek mill. In 1924, Rusava was declared a municipality name. During the German occupation , partisan detachments of the Green Cadre and later the Jan Žižka von Trocnov brigade operated in the municipality . In 1960 the community was assigned to the Okres Kroměříž . Rusava is now a resort. There are 600 holiday homes and ten larger recreational properties in the corridors. There is a solar-heated outdoor pool in the southern part of the village. The community carries a coat of arms and a banner.
