history

Archaeological finds from the period between 1000 and 500 BC BC document an early settlement of the municipality area.

The parish in Ratay was first mentioned in writing in 1220. In 1379, Vladike Smil de Ratay sold the property to Wok von Hohlenstein . In 1409 the place was called Rataj . During the Hussite Wars the parish became extinct and the village was parish off to Zdounky . Since 1531 the village was called Ratage . In the 16th century the village was the center of several religious sects. Since 1550 there was a school of the Brethren in the village. In 1560 a parish of the Moravian Brethren was established in Ratage ; ten years later the Catholic parish was renewed and administered by Pastor zu Zdounky. The brothers' pastor was withdrawn in 1600, and the pastor's post was filled again between 1618 and 1620. Both parishes went out in the Thirty Years' War. The Hradian Jesuits re-established a Catholic parish in Ratage in 1670 and re-Catholicized the entire district by 1700. In 1740 the reconstruction of the church was completed. A school was built behind the church in 1778 and a new rectory between 1810 and 1814. The church was also destroyed in the fire on April 21, 1840. It was rebuilt from 1841.

After the abolition of patrimonial Rataj / Rattay formed from 1850 a municipality in the district administration Kroměříž. In 1880 a new school building was built. The municipality has been called Rataje since 1881 . In the same year serious damage was found to the church and it was decided to demolish it. Popovice and Sobělice were incorporated in 1961. The primary school was closed in 1979 and the children retrained to Kroměříž. At the beginning of the school year 1991/92 a primary school was established again in Rataje.

Community structure

The municipality Rataje consists of the districts Popovice ( Popowitz ), Rataje ( Rattay ) and Sobělice ( Zobelitz ).
