The Czech Okres Kroměříž (Kremsier district) is located in the north-western part of the Zlínský kraj and covers an area of 796 km². 62% of the area is usable for agriculture, 27% is forested. Of the 105,572 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019), around 65% live in cities.
In the valleys of the March river , mainly fruit and vegetables are grown. 33% of the employees work in industry, in agriculture and forestry 5.6%. The environmental pollution is quite high due to the thermal power plants and the heavy traffic, especially around the center of Kroměříž . There are around 312 companies with more than 20 employees in the district. The unemployment rate is about one percentage point above the Czech average.
Kroměřížsko is a region with promising prospects in tourism. The historical destinations in particular attract many visitors:
- Archbishop's castle with the adjoining castle park and a little further lying flower garden (pleasure garden) in Kroměříž, which are part of the UNESCO World Heritage . The city was also voted the most beautiful city in the Czech Republic in 1997 and is often referred to as the “Athens of Haná”.
- Folk architecture in Rymice with old courtyards
- Pilgrimage church on the Hostýn hill
- Jewish cemetery and synagogue in Holešov
- Ruins of Cimburk Castle
- Hunting lodge in Chropyně
Cyclists can find many well-developed trails in the Hostýnské vrchy area and along the Morava River. The annual 30,000 visitors find accommodation in 39 buildings with 680 rooms and 2,089 beds.
Since January 1st, 2007 the municipality of Bělov belongs to the Okres Zlín .
