The Okres Uherské Hradiště (District Hungarian Hradish) is located with an area of 991 km² in the south-western part of the Zlínský kraj ( Czech Republic ).
The majority of employees work in industry (39%), most of them in mechanical engineering, aircraft construction, defense technology and microelectronics as well as the food industry. In agriculture, only 4.6% of the employed find their livelihood. Unemployment is around 11% below the Czech average.

Every year around 58,000 tourists visit the area. Topolná is the location of the long wave transmitter of the Czech Radio .
