Bílovice Castle

Bílovice (German Bilowitz , formerly Billowitz ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic . It is located eight kilometers northeast of Uherské Hradiště and belongs to the Okres Uherské Hradiště .

geography

Bílovice is located in the northwestern foothills of the Prakšická vrchovina on the edge of the nature park of the same name. The village is located at the confluence of the Zlámanecký creek in the Březnice . To the north rises the Štěrky (233 m), in the southeast the Vrchovina (331 m) and the Rovná hora (350 m), south of the Lovisko (349 m) and in the southwest the Rovnina (336 m).

Neighboring towns are Topolná in the north, Březolupy , Mladé and Svárov in the Northeast, Dubovský Mlyn, Mala Strana and Nedachlebice the east, Pašovice , Prakšice and Lhotka in the southeast, Hradčovice , Veletiny and Popovice in the south, Mistřice and Jarošov the southwest, Včelary the west and Babice and Spytihněv in the north-west.

history

Archaeological finds prove an early settlement of the community area up to the Neolithic . The present village was probably founded in the 11th century. The first written mention of the episcopal feudal Belawiz took place in 1256. The parish Belawiz was established in the same year, to her belonged the villages Kněžpole , Mistřice , Topolná , Nedachlebice , Svárov , Javorovec and Zlámanec . Other forms of name are Belewiz (1274), Wielobitz (1298), Pilowitz (1372) and Bielowicz (1523). After the Hungarian King Matthias Corvinus succeeded in capturing Viktorin of Podebrady during the power struggle for the Bohemian Crown on July 27, 1469 in Veselí nad Moravou , his brother Heinrich d. In 1861 Zdenko and Wladimir Logothetti inherited half of their father's property, later Wladimir Logothetti bought his brother's share. In 1866 Prussian troops brought cholera , and 28 people died in Bílovice. The current place name Bílovice has been used since 1872 . From 1892 Hugo II. Logothetti was the owner of the castle. After his death in 1918, his widow Bedřiška took over the estate with the children in 1920. The 290 hectares of land that belonged to the estate until the first land reform in 1920 was leased by the Logothetti family to the May brothers from Staré Město, sugar manufacturers . In addition, the estate also had a brick factory. In 1961 Včelary was incorporated into Bílovice.

Attractions

  • Bílovice Castle with a park. The original Renaissance building was built in the 16th century from an old fortress in the center of the village. Later conversions were carried out in the late Baroque style and finally under Ferdinand von Laurencin-Beaufort in the Empire style. The palace park was created in the middle of the 19th century. From 1831 the castle was owned by the Logothetti family, who were expropriated in 1945. In 2006 the three-wing, single-storey castle with a U-shaped floor plan was repaired and in 2010 the park was renovated.
  • Church of the Birth of John the Baptist, built in 1336 in Gothic style. It received its current form in 1680 through the addition of two chapels.
