history

The Chapel of the Virgin Mary

The first tradition about a glassworks in the Stupava valley dates back to 1701. It is believed that it was founded a hundred years earlier by Georg Sigmund von Zástřizly . From 1750, the village belonging to the Buchlovice manor can be proven that in the course of the 18th century it grew rapidly due to the expansion of the glassworks and the increase in production. The range of the hut was extensive and mainly comprised plate glass and utility glass, but also glasses for representation purposes. Between 1801 and 1806 the company got into a crisis and had to stop production due to sales difficulties. Some of the glassmakers migrated to Nový Hrozenkov .

In 1814 the Berchtold leased the hut to the glassmaker Isaak Reich from Buchlowitz , who put it back into operation. In 1850 390 people lived in the village. Until the smelter was closed in 1876, the contract, which was concluded for one year at a time, was repeatedly extended. Many of the glassmaker families then left the place. The remaining families have been earning their living in the administration building of the former glassworks since the end of the 19th century, where a workshop for the production of buttons and jewelry from mother-of-pearl was established, which provided 15 jobs.

Staré Hutě was parish to Buchlovice until October 4, 1863 and was then assigned to the newly formed parish in Stupava .

Today, Staré Hutě is primarily a resort.
