The Brdo (German: Bredo ) is 587 meters, the highest point in the Martian Mountains , Czech Republic . It is located seven kilometers south of the Zdounky community .

geography

The Brdo is part of a rugged rock ridge that slopes steeply to the north to the lowlands. Together with its western secondary peak, Malé Brdo (585 m), it is the highest point of the Mars Mountains.

Surrounding places are Roštín and Divoky in the north, the mountain hut Chata Bunč in the east, Jankovice and Salaš in the southeast, Staré Hutě in the southwest and Zástřizly and Cetechovice in the west.

South of the summit is the embankment of the unfinished motorway , two kilometers northeast in the forest is a motorway bridge.

Observation tower

At the top there is a 24 m high stone observation tower, which offers a wide view of the Little Carpathians , White Carpathians , the Jeseníky Mountains , the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands and the March valley . The tower, built according to the plans of the architects Svatopluk Sládeček and Bohuslav Stránský, was completed in 2004 and inaugurated on October 28, 2004 by the Archbishop of Olomouc and Metropolitan of Moravia, Jan Graubner , the construction costs amounted to 5.5 million crowns . Its wooden predecessor building was demolished in the 1970s because it was dilapidated.

The architects Sládeček and Stránský were awarded a Grand Prix Obce Architektů in 2005 for the design of the tower .
