Michael von Ameln (born August 23, 1971 in Rheydt , today Mönchengladbach ) is a former referee in the 1st Bundesliga in field and indoor hockey and was licensed by the FIH as an international indoor and field referee until 2010. One of his greatest national successes is leading the finals for the German men's indoor championship in 2008 and 2009.

Sports

Michael von Ameln has been playing hockey at the Rheydter Spielverein since 1982 . As early as 1988 he was licensed as a hockey referee and quickly rose to the second highest division, the regional league. As early as 1992 he was involved in the training of young referees and in 1997, at the age of just 25, was appointed acting referee chairman of the West German Hockey Association. The former theology and philosophy student von Ameln put his own referee career on hold, professionalized the promotion of young talents and built up a performance cadre program. As a result of this work, the West German Hockey Association has most of the hockey referees within the German Hockey Association. In 2000, the then 29-year-old von Ameln was appointed as a referee in the indoor hockey Bundesliga .

In March 2003, at the suggestion of his predecessor Jan-Jochen Rommel, he was elected junior referee assistant to the German Hockey Federation and was responsible for training and introducing referees below the Bundesliga.

Michael von Ameln was from May 2009 to August 2010 Chairman of the Commission for Referees and Rules Issues (KSR) of the German Hockey Association (DHB), of which he had been a member since 2003 (in the position of junior arbitrator ). He was also a member of the DHB board. Furthermore, he represented the interests of the DHB in the indoor hockey commission of the European hockey federation EHF. With the appointment of Amelns to the referee board, an active Bundesliga referee was responsible for the refereeing for the first time. After severe criticism, von Ameln resigned from his office on August 10, 2010. As part of the "Markus Poniewas" sock puppet affair, Michael von Ameln was banned from honorary positions, including referees, by the executive committee of the West German Hockey Association on February 23, 2011, while von Ameln appealed to the court of arbitration of the WHV. This initially lifted the ban on March 11, 2011. After the hearing before the arbitration tribunal, however, it saw overwhelming suspicions and withdrew the suspension until a final decision on July 20, 2011.

In addition, he gives lectures on the subject of referee recruitment and training as well as on the subject of "Referee-Trainer Conflicts" at the Trainer Academy / Sports University in Cologne .
