The main sources of income for the residents were lime kilns and logging, as well as pasture and livestock farming and agriculture. Until the middle of the 19th century, the settlement was subject to the Světlov rule.

After the replacement of patrimonial Vápenice / Kalkhütten formed from 1850 a settlement of the municipality Hrozinkov in the district administration Uherský Brod . At the end of the 19th century, Vápenice consisted of 59 thatched timber timber houses and had 369 inhabitants. On June 5, 1919 Vápenice broke away from Starý Hrozenkov and formed its own municipality. After the dissolution of the Okres Uherský Brod, Vápenice came to the Okres Uherské Hradiště in late 1960 . Between 1980 and 1991 Vápenice was again incorporated into Starý Hrozenkov.

In the 20th century, Vápenice became a resort. The guests included u. a. Jiří Mahen and Jarmila Urbánková . The folk teller Josef Lebánek lived in Vápenice for a while. A skiing area with several slopes and lifts was created in Mikulčin.

Vápenice today consists of 65 houses and around 60 holiday homes and cottages. The old school, which was later used as a cultural center, is now the headquarters of the Gorstring company, which manufactures strings for musical instruments. Vápenice has had a coat of arms and a banner since 2009.
