location

Komňa stretches along the Koménka stream at the foot of the White Carpathians .

history

In 1261 Komňa was first mentioned in connection with the Zuvačov fortress on the Hrádek hill. It was probably destroyed during the Hussite Wars . The place is one of the possible birthplaces of the pedagogue Johann Amos Comenius , who is said to have chosen his surname after the place. In any case, Komňa was the seat of his ancestors, the Segesch. In the 18th and 19th centuries it was considered a center for the manufacture of veterinary pliers.
