Nivnice (German Niwnitz ) is a municipality in Okres Uherské Hradiště in the Zlínský kraj region in the Czech Republic . It extends in the valley of the Nivnička brook .
history
Nivnice was first mentioned in 1261 when the Brumow burgrave Smil von Zbraslav and Střílky donated the place to the Smilheim Monastery in Wisowitz , in whose possession it remained until the Hussite Wars. After that, Nivnice belonged to the lords of Cimburg , von Víckov , the lords of Kunstat and the Blíživci z Blíživce.
In 1517 Nivnice was raised to the rank of town and belonged to the domain of Hungarian Brod , later the Lords of Kunowitz. In the 16th century the residents joined the Lutheran movement. In the 17th century, the city, now owned by the Liechtensteiners , was often ravaged by Hungarian armies. Most of the city fell victim to the flames and the population was killed or abducted.
In 1848, forced labor was abolished and an independent administration was established. The main source of income was agriculture. However, this could not feed the people. Many people emigrate to Vienna, South and North America.
