Stupava (German Stupawa ) is a municipality with 150 inhabitants in the Czech Republic . It is located 15 km northwest of Staré Město on the Kyjovka in the Martian Mountains . The cadastral area is 711 ha.
geography
The place, surrounded by wooded hills, extends 345 m above sea level. M. on the upper reaches of the Kyjovka in a narrow valley. To the west is the Koryčany dam . In the northeast, Stupava is affected by the European route 50 / state route 50 between Bučovice and Buchlovice . The highest peak of the Mars Mountains , the Brdo in the northeast, is also within walking distance .
Neighboring towns are Zástřizly in the north, Staré Hutě in the northeast, Buchlov and Buchlovice in the southeast, Vranovy Žleby in the south, Vřesovice in the southwest, Koryčany and Lískovec in the west and Střílky in the northwest.
history
Stupava was founded in 1690, the main settlement phase was between 1695 and 1705. The inhabitants lived on the cattle farming, which they could not support, so that some emigrated and others looked for work in the cities. Most of them earned their living from charcoal burning or worked in the glassworks in Koryčany and Staré Hutě or in Buchlowitz Forest. In 1857, the construction of a church, which had been planned since the 18th century, began, which was completed in 1859 and made a parish church in 1863 . Stupava, which until then was parish to Osvětimany , became the parish for Koryčanská Huť and Staré Hutě. Between 1924 and 1939 mother-of-pearl goods were made in Stupava .
Today the place is mainly a resort and has 80 holiday homes and 10 holiday cottages. In the winter months it is a popular ski and snowboard area.
