The White Carpathians (Czech. Bílé Karpaty , Slovak. Biele Karpaty ) are a low mountain range in the western part of the Carpathian Arc and, together with the Beskydy and the March, form the border between the Czech Republic (part of South Moravia and the Zlín region ) and Slovakia ( Trenčín district ).
location
The White Carpathians are located on the border between the Czech Republic and Slovakia. They are bounded by the Little Carpathians in the south, by the valley of the river Waag in the east and by the river March in the northwest. To the north, the Lyska Pass (Lyský průsmyk) forms the transition to the Javorníky . The Vizovická vrchovina connects to the northwest . The Velička , Myjava and Olšava rises in the White Carpathians . The mountains in the north are broken through by the Vlára .
There are several important cities at the foot of the White Carpathians. On the Czech side these are Uherské Hradiště and Zlín , on the Slovak side Nové Mesto nad Váhom and Trenčín . The most important medieval trade route between Moravia and Hungary led through the mountains over the Stranypass with the "Hungarian Road" . Other passes are the Welkapass and the Wlarapass , which later gained importance mainly through a railway connection.

The peaks rise relatively gently from the surrounding area. In the middle part - between the Czech city of Uherské Hradiště and the Slovak city of Trenčín - you can reach heights of up to 970 meters. The Javořina nature reserve is located in the White Carpathians .
