Kostelci was first mentioned in a document in 1131 in an inventory of the Olomouc bishop Heinrich Zdik . In the 13th century there was a fortress on the Hrad or Hradisko. In 1368 the place was called Costelecz and in 1537 Kostelecz . In the course of time, numerous noble families, including the Prusinovský von Víckov and the lords of Lobkowicz, alternated as owners.
In 1650 Johann von Rottal acquired the property, he united the dominions of Bistritz and Holleschau into one large dominion. The inhabitants of the place earned their living mostly by hand weaving. In 1717 a weaving guild was formed in Prusinovice , which also included the weavers from Bořenovice , Roštění , Kostelec, Líšná and Pacetluky . After the von Rottal family died out, the inheritance fell to Franz Anton von Rottal's son-in-law Franz Maximilian Nádasdy in 1762 , who sold the rule to Count Erdődy . Until the middle of the 19th century, the place was always subject to Holešov.
After the abolition of patrimonial formed Kostelec / Kosteletz 1850 a municipality in the district administration Holleschau. In 1858 the Erdődy counts sold their goods in Holešov with all their accessories to the von Würben counts . The weaving trade, which was not competitive due to outdated technology with the flourishing textile industry, experienced its decline during this time. Since 1885, the municipality used the official addition u Holešova / bei Holleschau in the place name to distinguish it from numerous places of the same name. In 1961 the community was added to the Okres Kroměříž and at the same time Karlovice was incorporated. Ethnographically the village belongs to Hanna .
