Wok II von Rosenberg (Czech Vok II. Z Rožmberka ; * July 18, 1459 , † September 1, 1505 ) was a Bohemian nobleman from the Rosenbergs .

Life

Wok's parents were Johann II von Rosenberg and Anna von Glogau († 1483). After his father's death in 1472, Wok's older brother Heinrich succeeded him . Presumably because he was mentally inadequate, he took part in the government from the beginning of 1475 Wok, to which he finally in August the J. transferred the reign for three years. Shortly afterwards, Wok and his siblings asked their uncle Bohuslav von Schwanberg to take over the guardianship of the family's assets for six years. The treaty was sealed on December 11, 1475.

In order to acquire political and social knowledge, Wok went to the court of the Bavarian Duke Ludwig von Bayern-Landshut and his son Georg . Like his father, Wok sympathized politically with the Bohemian rival king Matthias Corvinus . After he stationed Hungarian mercenaries in Budweis, among others , who plundered not only the possessions of their opponents, but also of the Rosenbergs, their guardian administrator Bohuslav von Schwanberg turned against Matthias Corvinus. He had him captured with the help of Jaroslav von Boskowitz on January 30, 1478 and brought to the Hungarian fortress Diósgyőr . It was not until the early summer of 1479 that he was released by the Kuttenberg mint master and burgrave of Karlstein Benesch Krabice von Weitmühl ( Beneš Krabice z Veitmile ) on the intervention of the Bohemian King Vladislav II . Because of the incidents, Wok returned and released Bohuslav von Schwanberg from the guardianship contract, which he could no longer exercise due to his imprisonment. Wok took over the regency, but turned against Matthias Corvinus and supported King Vladislav II.

In 1479 Matthias Corvinus invited Wok to Olomouc for negotiations between the two kings, which were sealed with the Peace of Olomouc . Corvinus renounced further claims in Bohemia, but kept the Bohemian neighboring countries Moravia , Silesia , Upper and Lower Lusatia . It was also agreed that the areas of whoever would die first would go to the other. According to the contract, Corvin's territories including the claim to the throne to Hungary came to Vladislav II. Peter II of Rosenberg after his death in 1490, who was appointed governor and took part in Vladislav's coronation as King of Hungary in Stuhlweissenburg .

During Wok's reign, the Rosenbergs began to expand the pond management in the Wittingau basin , where they had the Dehtář and Velký Tisý ponds built.

For health reasons, Wok handed over the reign to his brother Peter IV von Rosenberg on December 4, 1493 . He kept to himself Wittingau , where he took his seat, the patronage of the monastery in Forbes , the festivals in Vidov , the village of Homole and the subordinates and lands of the Maškovec manor. At the same time he resigned the office of governor, about which he informed the King Vladislav on December 5, 1493.

After Wok's death in 1505, his possessions were reintegrated into the Rosenberg dominion. After the death of the childless Peter II von Rosenberg, it went back to Wok's sons.
