The medieval castle Diósgyőr , which was first mentioned in 1271, is now the main attraction of the district, where around 60,000 people live.
The football club Diósgyőri VTK , founded in 1910, has played in the first Hungarian league since 2004 , where it finished the 2017/18 season in 10th place.
The rolling mill in Diósgyőr produced railroad tracks for the Hungarian railways from 1870 to 1999. Such rails were also used for the routes of the Raab-Oedenburg-Ebenfurter Eisenbahn (Raaberbahn, Győr-Sopron-Ebenfurti Vasút, ROeEE or GySEV) in Austria.
