Rolling mark
The marking of a beam or rail rolled from metal is called a rolling mark . The marking is engraved as a negative form in the finished caliber of the roller and results in raised writing or raised characters on the product, the type and size of which is specified in the European standard EN 13674-1 for Vignole rails, for example . The usual circumference of the rollers results in a spacing between the roller marks for beams and rails of approx. 2-3 m to each other. A rolling mark can contain:
- the manufacturer's logo
- the name of the manufacturer
- the place of manufacture
- the production year (also production month, possibly coded)
- a mark of product quality
- an identifier for the manufacturing process (T = Thomas-Stahl , B = Bessemer-Stahl , (S) M = (Siemens-) Martin-Stahl )
Structural steel
Also, reinforcing steel of reinforced concrete is characterized over rolling marks, where a "bit pattern" is housed within the corrugation.
Roll mark for steel grade of railroad tracks
This marking of the steel quality today consists of a standardized rolling mark made up of short and long lines. For the rail types that are heat-treated in the factory, this is supplemented with a second rolling mark (which is attached to the right of the one for the steel grade).
The applicable standard EN 13674-1 has been mandatory since February 2009 for symmetrical wide base rails from 46 kg / m. However, many manufacturers have already used them before. This also regulates the new order of all rolling marks. The now valid identification is from left to right; Manufacturer, steel grade, year of manufacture (without month!), EN profile designation. It replaces the old sequence, which was: manufacturer, manufacturer year and month, UIC profile designation (or other e.g. SBB profiles), steel quality
