Johann III. von Rosenberg (also Johann von Strakonitz ; Czech Jan III. z Rožmberka also Jan ze Strakonic , born November 24, 1484 ; † February 29, 1532 ) was Grand Prior of the Johanniter in Bohemia from 1517 and 1523-1524 and 1526-1532 regent of the noble family Rosenberg .

Life

His parents were Wok II von Rosenberg and Margarete von Guttenstein ( Markéta z Gutenštejna ). Johann was the oldest among the brothers Jost , Peter and Heinrich . He embarked on a church career and became a member of the Order of St. John. After he rose to Grand Prior of the Strakonitz Coming in 1511 , he was also referred to as Johann von Strakonitz .

Johann's father Wok II had handed over the reign of the Rosenberg House to his brother Peter IV von Rosenberg for health reasons . After Wok II's death in 1505, he also took over the guardianship of his underage children. Since relations between him and the nephews were not good, he shared the dominium. He gave a smaller part to the nephews Heinrich, Jost and Peter and kept the larger part to himself. He bequeathed this to Johann. Since Johann was in his favor, he also appointed him as his successor in the reign of the Rosenbergs. After Johann belonged to the priesthood and therefore could not have a legitimate successor, Peter IV also decreed that the inheritance should go to foreign nobles after Johann's death, among whom Zdeniek Lev von Rosental played the main role.

Johann followed his uncle's will and took over the reign of the Rosenbergs. Although an inheritance dispute broke out among his brothers, he moved from Strakonitz to Krummau . In the dispute over the inheritance, Jost and Peter appointed their youngest brother Heinrich as regent of the Rosenbergs. Subsequently, on November 18, 1523, all three lodged an objection to the will of their uncle Peter IV with the highest treasurer of the kingdom and requested that it not be entered on the land table . In 1524 they turned to King Ludwig directly and applied for the surrender of the possessions that Johann had inherited and their transfer to Heinrich, the legally elected successor. The request was granted in June 1524. However, Johann did not give up the rule voluntarily, so that his brothers sometimes had to use coercion. In the second half of 1524 Heinrich took over the regency of the Rosenbergs.

After Zdeniek Lev von Rosental became burgrave again in 1525, he rekindled the struggle for the estate. After long legal disputes, the Rosenbergs paid Johann's co-heirs so that Heinrich could continue to rule. However, this died a year later, and Johann III. took over the regency again from 1526 until his death in 1532.

On January 30, 1527, Johann was part of the delegation that received the new King Ferdinand at Iglau . At his coronation on February 24th. J. he wore the royal crown together with Zdeněk von Rosental, accompanied by his brothers Jost and Peter.

Shortly after taking office, Ferdinand asked Rosenberger to ensure that Kaaden was quiet . Here Lutheran supporters rose against the Catholic orders. The citizens occupied the local church and the monastery of St. John and appropriated half of the cemetery.

After Johann's death in 1532, his brother Jost took over the management of the family property.
