In the Peace of Olomouc of 1479 , Matthias Corvinus and Vladislav II settled the Bohemian-Hungarian conflict that had been going on for 10 years.

background

After the Calixtines , the moderate part of the Hussites , had come to an arrangement with the Catholic Church by means of the Prague compacts , they turned against the radical Taborites , who had been defeated in the Battle of Lipan in 1434. This ended the Hussite revolution.

A short time later, the conflicts between the Catholic Austrian Party on the one hand and the Calixtine National Party on the other broke out again.

Under the leadership of George of Podebrady , the Calixtines succeeded in conquering large parts of Bohemia with the capital Prague .

After the early death of Ladislaus Postumus , Georg von Podiebrad, who had previously been an imperial administrator , was his successor as King of Bohemia. He was the first non-Catholic king in Europe.

A year later Pius II became Pope and with it the relationship between the Utraquists and the Catholic Church deteriorated. The papacy now sought a solution to the conflict through military force.

Georg von Podiebrad saw himself as an alliance from the majority of the Bohemian- Catholic nobility, the Emperor Friedrich III. and the Hungarian King Matthias Corvinus opposite. Podiebrad had previously helped Corvinus to gain the Hungarian crown against Frederick's will.

Bohemian-Hungarian conflict

Corvinus conquered most of Moravia and was also elected King of Bohemia on May 3, 1469 in Olomouc . Both rulers now claimed the title of king and the conflict continued. That did not change with Podiebrad's successor, Vladislav II . Now allied with Frederick III, the Bohemians did not succeed in a decisive blow against Corvinus.

Peace treaty

With the armistice of Wroclaw on December 8, 1474, Vladislav Corvinus had to recognize the rule over the Bohemian sub-countries .

With the Peace of Olomouc Corvinus renounced further claims in Bohemia, but kept the Bohemian neighboring countries Moravia, Silesia , Upper and Lower Lusatia and the title of King of Bohemia. The Bohemian claims to rule of whoever would die first should fall to the other. With this provision, the constitutional unity of the Bohemian crown was preserved, even if there were currently two kings.

In 1490 Vladislav II became king over the whole of Bohemia and was also able to acquire the throne of Hungary.
