Undiscovered Soul is the second solo album by Richie Sambora , the guitarist of the band Bon Jovi . It was released in 1998. After the world tour for the band's album These Days from 1995 to 1996, the band took another break so that the band members could devote themselves to their solo projects.

Music genre

The sound of the album is very experimental and the songs cannot all be assigned to one style. The album contains ballads ( All That Really Matters ), hard rock ( Who I Am ), stadium rock ( Hard Times Come Easy ), and blues rock numbers ( Harlem Rain ).

Critics praise Richie Sambora's skills as a guitarist and songwriter , but miss one or the other catchy chorus. The fans like the album, even if Richie Sambora could hardly win new ones with the album, because the great success did not materialize.

Track list

There are two different editions of the album, a general version and a Japanese version. The versions differ mainly in the cover, a different order of the track list and a bonus track. In addition, the Japanese version contains smaller recordings that are not separate tracks, such as a short exchange of words or a short guitar play; this explains most of the differences in track length.

Song information

As a single, Hard Times Come Easy was only able to place itself in the mainstream rock charts in the USA (at number 39). The album was generally much less successful in the US than Stranger in This Town , while in Europe Undiscovered Soul entered the charts in even more countries, albeit not very successfully.

The different lengths of the two album versions only come about in Fallen from Graceland and Undiscovered Soul due to significant differences in the song. The Japanese version of Fallen from Graceland is slower than the standard version and has the same chorus twice. In the standard version, the first chorus is shorter, the second corresponds to the Japanese version. The Japanese version of the song Undiscovered Soul has a guitar solo and part of the chorus is repeated again.

The other songs also differ slightly in terms of tempo and instrumentation. Likewise the song All That Really Matters , which, however, also differs lyrically in the first verse. The version of Track 5 on the standard version is very similar to that of Track 8 on the Japanese version. The last track on the Japanese album contains another verse and the chorus of the song, but is orchestrated completely differently. The stanza begins similarly, but is resolved completely differently. However, the whole thing is only a good two minutes long, the rest of the five minutes you can only hear Richie Sambora saying you're not alone in a loop .
