Cross Road - The Best of Bon Jovi (English for: " Querstraße - Das Beste von Bon Jovi ") is the first compilation album by the American rock band Bon Jovi . It was released in 1994 and brought out two successful singles with the two new songs, Always and Someday I'll Be Saturday Night .

Musical content

The album contains the band's most successful hits. The structure is typical of Bon Jovi: fast, rocky songs interrupted by powerful ballads. The compilation was well received by fans of the group, and the album does not do badly with reviews.

Information on individual songs

The new version of "Livin 'on a Prayer" called "Prayer '94" was played by Bon Jovi in a similar presentation at the 1989 MTV Video Music Awards , together with Wanted Dead or Alive . The band still plays this version, especially on special occasions, such as when they were inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame on November 14, 2006 , or when they performed on MTV Unplugged in June 2007.

"Always", written by Jon Bon Jovi, was originally intended for the film Romeo Is Bleeding , but was withheld after Jon Bon Jovi previewed the film and was not positively impressed by it. He was later persuaded by a friend to publish the track on Cross Road . It became a worldwide hit, reaching platinum in the US. Keri Russell , Jack Noseworthy , Carla Gugino and Jason Wiles star in the music video for the single .

The CD box 100,000,000 Bon Jovi Fans Can't Be Wrong contains the demo version of “Always” and “Someday I'll Be Saturday Night”.

reception

The reviews were mostly mixed for the first best-of album. In the rock-hard magazine, for example, the following criticism from Thomas Kupfer could be read: “The last album Keep the Faith turned out to be a double-edged sword for Bon Jovi: In America you could not sell the numbers of the previous albums by far, in Europe, where New Jersey's Finest - like other 'big' American bands before - had always struggled, the disc developed into an absolute bestseller. The best-of-compilation Cross Road should therefore be perfectly tailored to the current public taste in our latitudes and give the band the umpteenth precious metal award. For newcomers who have only followed the career of melodic rockers since Keep the Faith (i.e. all 'rockers' under twelve ...), the album is a must, for old fans with Someday I'II Be Saturday Night and the current one Single Always offered an additional incentive to buy. The latter number, which has been rumbled up and down by radio stations for some time, is a surefire hit. What could be more natural than using the well-known ballad knitting pattern for Someday I'II Be Saturday Night ? Nothing. It is more than embarrassing that the quality standard that one is normally used to from the traditional Bon Jovi songs is not achieved here, as it shows that mere copying rarely works without quality fluctuations. "

Cross Road reached number 1 in many countries. The album is even more successful than New Jersey in global terms - making it the second most successful album by the band after Slippery When Wet . In the USA the album reached four times platinum , in Canada even diamond status, in Great Britain five times platinum and in Germany it is the most successful Bon Jovi album with six weeks at number 1 and 66 weeks in the charts and double platinum -Award. In August 2000 the album managed to re-enter and placed itself in the German album charts for another two weeks. In the Austrian charts , the album stayed at number 1 for 4 weeks and 61 weeks in the charts and went platinum three times.

To date, Cross Road has sold over 21 million copies worldwide, making it one of the 100 most successful albums of all time.
