This Left Feels Right is a 2003 compilation album by Bon Jovi with alternative variations of previous hits by the band. Most of the songs, which are originally faster hard rock songs, have been transformed into slower ballads.

background

During the tour of the previous album Bounce Bon Jovi had an appearance in Japan where they only played acoustic versions of their own songs and some cover versions. This performance was recorded and there was discussion about releasing it as a live acoustic album. However, the band was not satisfied with the result and therefore decided to take a more experimental route, so that completely new versions were recorded in the studio.

Jon Bon Jovi first had At The Steps of Graceland as the title of the album , but when someone said "this left feels right", which means "this is unconventional but feels right," the album title was fixed.

Two new songs were written for the album, but neither were released with the album: Last Man Standing and Thief of Hearts . However, both songs were released a year later in the box set 100,000,000 Bon Jovi Fans Can't Be Wrong . Last Man Standing was also published in another version on Have a Nice Day .

Musical content

The album contains the band's most successful hits, but they are all new versions. The bonus track The Distance is also an acoustic variant, although it is a live recording. Many songs that were harder rock numbers in the original version became slower, acoustic alternatives. Even if the band was inspired by the unplugged appearance of Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora at the VMAs in 1989, most of the songs are not “unplugged”, because the band wanted to offer more than what they had almost 15 years earlier had made.

For the musical variety, Richie Sambora was particularly influenced by Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin , Jon Bon Jovi from Tom Waits .

Information on individual songs

Wanted Dead or Alive was only released as a promo single and has no chart relevance.

With Livin 'on a Prayer , Bon Jovi publishes the first duet with another artist. Olivia d'Abo sings the female part of the song. On the next releases there will be more duets: Who Says You Can't Go Home will be released in 2006 as a duet with Jennifer Nettles from the band Sugarland , which will be a country hit in the USA, and Till We Ain't Strangers Anymore , was recorded with LeAnn Rimes in 2007.

While Bon Jovi did not play most of their songs in the This Left Feels Right version during live appearances , the version of Bed of Roses also caught on live for some time, up to the 2007 Lost Highway Tour. After that, Bed of Roses was played more often in the original version.

At Bon Jovi's MTV Unplugged performance in 2007, the band also performed You Give Love a Bad Name in the This Left Feels Right variant, albeit less experimentally than on the album. They also played it as a medley with Hit the Road Jack .
