Henry Krieger

Henry Krieger (born February 9, 1945 in New York City ) is an American composer .

Life

Krieger attended Scarborough School in Scarborough , New York . He studied art and music at American University in Washington, DC, and Columbia University in New York City, and then graphics at the Xaveriana Pontifical University in Bogotá , Colombia . Before he turned 30, he began writing music for off-off Broadway works. Krieger composed the music for the Broadway musical Dreamgirls ( filmed in 2006 ) in 1981 , the Broadway musical The Tap Dance Kid 1983 and the Broadway musical Side Show 1997.

Krieger was nominated for Best Music for Dreamgirls and for Side Show at the Tony Awards , and won a Grammy Award for his music album for the Broadway musical Dreamgirls , which was filmed in 2006. In 2007 he received three Oscar nominations for the songs "Listen", "Love You I Do" and "Patience". He wrote the music for many other American television productions.

Since 1995, Krieger has lived with Canadian actor Robert Joy in New York City.
