Valentín Elizalde

Valentín Elizalde (born February 1, 1979 in Navojoa ; † November 25, 2006 in Reynosa ) was a Mexican narcocorrido singer, who was also known by the stage name El Gallo de Oro (The Golden Rooster) and was victim of an attack by a Mexican drug cartel fell.

Life

Elizalde spent his childhood in the city of Navojoa in the state of Sonora . Then he moved to Guadalajara and later to Guasave , where he lived with his father, the singer Lalo Elizalde (called "El Gallo"), and his brothers. His father was killed in a car accident in the so-called "death curve" in Villa Juárez . Elizalde married Camila Valencia. They had six children.

Valentín Elizalde, his manager and best friend Mario Mendoza Grajeda and the driver Reynaldo Ballesteros were gunned down on November 25, 2006 after a concert in Reynosa . His cousin Tano suffered multiple gunshot wounds in the arm. According to media reports, fire was opened from two black Chevrolets with automatic weapons. Over 70 projectiles were later found, and Elizalde was hit 28 times. Since he was 27 years old, he is counted at Club 27 .

The attack is attributed to Los Zetas , a Mexican drug cartel. His assassination was followed by expressions of condolences and solidarity from many Spanish-speaking countries. The autopsy Elizalde was filmed and later shown on video sites on the Internet. Two men were sentenced to prison terms for the murder of Elizalde. In the Mexican state of Tamaulipas , several singers have already been suspected of being victims of the drug cartel, for example Zayda Peña Arjona .

In 2007, Elizalde was posthumously nominated for the Grammy Awards .
