biography

Peña Arjona achieved several musical successes with the group Culpables in Mexico . She caused a stir with the critical song "Amor ilegal", in which she discussed drug use. In doing so, she evidently aroused the indignation of the drug cartel. When she returned to her hotel “Monaco” on the evening of December 1, 2007 after a concert in Matamoros, she was gunned down at around 11:00 pm. A friend and a hotel employee were shot dead. Severely injured, Peña Arjona was brought to the Alfredo Pumarejo hospital and operated on. The following morning two men broke into the hospital and shot the singer in her hospital room. In the Mexican state of Tamaulipas , several singers have been alleged victims of the drug cartel, for example Valentín Elizalde .
