Jonathan Groff
Jonathan Groff (born March 26, 1985 in Lancaster , Pennsylvania ) is an American film and stage actor and singer .
Life
Childhood and youth
Jonathan Groff, the son of Jim and Julie Groff, grew up in Ronks , a small rural community in Lancaster County , and attended Conestoga Valley High School in Lancaster until 2003 . After graduating from high school, he moved to New York City to build a career as an actor. In order to be able to keep himself afloat financially, he worked, among other things, as a waiter in a restaurant in Hell's Kitchen (Manhattan) and as a social worker in a theater camp for young people.
Groff lives in New York City. Until July 2013, he was in a relationship with actor Zachary Quinto .
Career
In contrast to many young actors, who first become famous in film and television and only later in the theater, Groff made his acting debut from October to December 2005 in the musical In My Life on Broadway . After a year's absence from Broadway he was after November 2006 to May 2008 for the role of Melchior Gabor in the musical Spring Awakening committed . In 2007 he was nominated for three of the most important theater awards, the Tony Award , the Drama Desk Award and the Theater World Award , which he also received. At the same time Groff appeared in other theater productions, including in the summer of 2008 in Hair .
In 2007 Groff was discovered by a television producer, so that he was seen for the first time in front of the camera in eleven episodes of the US soap opera Love, Lies, Passions . In 2008 he starred in the drama Pretty / Handsome on the side of Joseph Fiennes and Robert Wagner . He had his breakthrough as a film actor in 2009 with his portrayal of music producer Michael Lang in the film about the history of the Woodstock Festival , Taking Woodstock .
From 2010 to 2015 he had a recurring supporting role in the television series Glee . In 2013 he lent his voice to the ice cream dealer Kristoff for the Disney film Frozen - Totally Unabashed.
On March 3, 2015, he joined the American musical Hamilton , in which he played the role of King George III and replaced his predecessor Brian d'Arcy James . Along with the rest of the musical's cast, Groff won a Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album and was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Musical .
Since 2017 he has played the leading role in the Netflix-produced series "Mindhunter". There he plays the FBI agent Holden Ford, who deals with the detailed questioning of serial killers in order to advance criminal psychology.
