Zachary John Quinto (born June 2, 1977 in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania ) is an American actor and film producer .

Life

Quinto was born to Irish and Italian parents and grew up in the suburb of Green Tree . His father John, a hairdresser by trade, died of cancer when Zachary was seven years old. At the age of eleven, Quinto appeared in productions of the music theater ensemble Pittsburgh City Light Opera . He received his first acting award while still in high school, the Gene Kelly Award, for his role in Pirates of Penzance . He quickly decided to take the actor's path. Therefore, after graduating from Central Catholic High School in 1995-1999, he went to Carnegie Mellon University to complete the musical theater program.

In 2000, Quinto moved west to make a name for himself in Hollywood. He starred in series such as CSI: Vegas , Six Feet Under , Charmed and The Heavenly Joan . He got his first recurring role in 2004 as Adam Kaufman in the third season of the action series 24 . After a few minor roles in the sitcom Twins and in the crime series Blind Justice - Investigators with Sharpened Senses and Crossing Jordan - Pathologist with Profile , Quinto appeared again regularly in the sitcom So NoTORIous .

From 2006 to 2010 Quinto played in the NBC - TV series Heroes the watchmaker Gabriel Gray aka Sylar . For this role he was nominated for the Teen Choice Award and the Scream Award for Best Villain in 2007 and 2008 . In the 2009 film Star Trek , he played the young Mr. Spock . Since 2011 he has had a recurring role on the American Horror Story series .

In 2011 Quinto was a co-producer and one of the leading actors in The Big Crash - Margin Call . A star ensemble was able to assemble for the film, which dealt with the financial crisis in 2007 and 2008. The film received several nominations and awards from renowned film prizes.

In October 2011, Quinto first spoke openly about his sexuality and announced that he was gay. He lives with his partner in SoHo, New York.

In 2017 he was accepted into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), which awards the Oscars every year.
