Peter Dijkstra (born June 11, 1978 in Roden , Netherlands ) is a Dutch conductor .

Life

In his youth, Dijkstra sang in the Roder Jongenskoor, a boys' choir that his father Bouwe Dijkstra founded in 1985. He later studied singing and conducting at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag , with Marcus Creed at the Cologne University of Music and Dance and with Jorma Panula at the Royal University of Music in Stockholm . He also attended master classes with Eric Ericson and Tõnu Kaljuste . In 2000 Dijkstra was assistant conductor of the Nederlands Radio Koor Hilversum , and he is also a guest conductor of the Nederlands Kamerkoor . From 2005 to 2016 Dijkstra was Artistic Director at the Bavarian Radio Choir . In 2007 he was appointed Chief Conductor of the Swedish Radio Choir . He also works regularly with important European vocal ensembles and also appears as an orchestra conductor.

Dijkstra has been Professor of Choral Conducting at the Cologne University of Music and Dance since 2014 .
